
Amidst of Punjab, lies another city with the name of Khewra. Khewra is perhaps famed due to the quality of salt it produces, which is around 96% pure, and The Khewra Salt Mine is the second largest salt mine in the world while being Pakistan's largest. Lets get ourselves into more details about the Salt Mine. The Khewra Salt Mine was discovered in the second half of the 1800's, although it dates back to the Mughal era and since the past few decades has been converted into a Tourism spot. Tourists usually visit the mine during the winters, since in the summers, it becomes quite humid. Khewra Salt mine has the old mining machinery for display, which helps you get a grasp of how mining was executed in the former times. Inside the Khewra Salt Mine, you could get sight of a small masjid which is entirely built on glowing multicolored salt bricks and it includes replica's of Minar e Pakistan, The Great Wall Of China and a statue of famous poet, Allama Iqbal which are all made from crystals and salt bricks. Pakistan's best rock salt is the Himalayan Salt. Not only the Himalyan salt tastes unique, it also has a unique color for a salt; off white Pink. The salt isn't only used for cooking but over the years, the craftsmen have used it for making decoration pieces like lamps, vases, statues etc. Much of the Salt Mine's walls are made out of the rock salt and there are beautiful textures on the ceilings for you to cherish.
