Mohatta Palace is renowned in Karachi for its stupendous
architecture, huge doors and ceilings as well as exquisite flooring. It was
built as a royal summer home, turned into the residence of Fatima Jinnah after
partition. After the death of the younger sister of our founder, the palace had
been shut down for 30 years till 1995, when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
purchased it and began its operations from there. Once they relocated, it
converted into a museum which has been preserved by the antiquities department
of Sindh. The museum hosts exhibitions every now and then, with the rich
history of Sindh on one side and modern art on the other. It truly is a sight
to behold.
However, the night guards frequently leave their positions
and have to be paid a substantial amount of money to make them stay at the
helm. Why?
Many guards have complained in the past of hearing parties
go on in the vacant blocks and once they would go in to investigate, they would
be greeted with floating wine glasses and completely rearranged exhibitions. Do
you believe this is true? Only one way to find out..
